Occupational Qualification: Management Accounting Officer

Purpose:
The combination of modules that make up this qualification provides entry into the field of management accounting and prepares a learner for a management accounting officer position up to a middle management level. The qualification also provides a foundation in the essential elements of accounting and business to people in other occupations that need such a foundation.

The qualifying learner will be able to:

  • Provide information on areas of economic activity relevant to an organisation’s decisions and apply within this context the numerical techniques to support such decisions.
  •  Identify and classify costs and cost behaviour and apply budgetary control measures.
  • Prepare financial statements within a conceptual and regulatory framework.
  • Apply ethical values in the context of corporate governance and company administration.

 

Rationale:
This qualification is the first step in the learning pathway to becoming a professional Management Accountant. A Management Accountant is currently one of the occupations in high demand in South Africa. This qualification is designed in co-operation with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and their stakeholders, and is aligned to international management accounting standards. This alignment will assist in keeping South African business practices in line with international norms.

Learners will be able to accumulate work experience necessary for the final Occupational Certificate: Management Accountant. These skills are necessary for business success and ultimately for economic growth in South Africa. 

Entry Requirements for Fresh Applicants:

  1. Certified copy of ID or Passport
  2. Certified Copy of Grade 12 OR any NQF Level 4 certificate with Maths Literacy or Mathematics 50% Pass Marks. If less than 50% marks must complete a bridging course.
  3. Signed PoPI agreement

Application Process

Complete the online application form and submit the following documents in the online application form:

  1. Download the PoPI agreement, sign it and attach it in the online application form (Link to download).
  2. Attach, certified copies of ID or Passport and certified copies of Grade12 Certificate or any completed NQF Level 4 Certificate.
  3. Attach the proof of payment (application Fee)
  4. Once the online application is received by the admission department with all the supporting documentation (including payment), a formal acceptance letter will be issued withing 20 working days if there are no outstanding documents or further information required.
  5. If the passing marks in Maths subject or Maths literacy are less than 50% the applicant will be required to complete a bridging course.

Admission through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

WNL Network Training Academy allows applicants to apply for the admission through RPL process, who do not have Grade 12 with Maths literacy or Maths or any NQF Level 4 with Maths Literacy or Maths.  Following are the minimum requirements:

  1. The candidate must have at least 3 years of experience in the relevant field related to the qualification.
  2. Must be a South African Citizen or Permanent Resident of South Africa
  3. A letter from the employer confirming the years of experience and the current responsibilities.
  4. Documents to be submitted with the online application form.
  • Certified ID copy
  • Signed PoPI agreement (Download here)
  • Letter from the employer
  • Certified copies of all the informal certificates or studies done in the form of short courses.
  • Detailed CV
  • Proof of payment (Application fee R350 + R 1725 RPL = 2075)

Note: Please take note that all the RPL applications will need to complete a mandatory RPL Assessment to qualify for the admission.

Duration: 18 – 24 Months

Teaching and Learning: All Knowledge Modules will be presented online, Practical and Workplace Modules will be presented through contact face to face sessions.

Professional Body Affiliation: Once qualified from the WNL Network Training Academy, the learners are advised to register with the relevant Professional Body related to this qualification, such as “Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
